A System For Creativity

in New Ideas

As I typed the title for this post, I laughed a few times. At face value, “A system for creativity” seems to be a funny idea, akin to something like “Penciling in spontaneity on my calendar”. But that exact concept has been in my head for a few weeks. How do you build a methodology or system for creating new dishes or applications for methods?

You can train in culinary technique, learning all the standards. You can study cookbooks, food blogs, and reference works, noting what others have done. You can travel around the world, eating from pushcarts to the finest restaurants. You can trail and work in restaurants, getting some first-hand insight on other people’s combinations and presentations. Most likely, after all these great experiences, you may not have been exposed to a method for systematically thinking and working through the creative process.

Some thoughts on the basis for a methodology in the next few posts.
