If you know who Nathan Myhrvold is, you may remember him as the former Chief Technical Officer of Microsoft.  Not as many may know of Myhrvold’s passion for the kitchen and more specifically, modern cooking technique.  But all that may change soon with the publication of Myhrvold’s “Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking“, an ambitious five-volume cookbook/textbook/history.  I’m not going to hype the book; I haven’t seen it yet and I’m still pondering the $625 list price (though it’s available as a pre-order at Amazon right now for $421.87, which is also a “still pondering” price for me).  The book has a website where you can preview the table of contents; I found it gorgeous, especially the view of cross-sectioned Weber grill in action.

OK, I’ll admit.  By the end of the day, I expect I will have pre-ordered.
